WIMA Work from Home Playlist of 78rpm Discs

Like most of the world, we here at the Ward Irish Music Archives are working at home during the spring of 2020. So each day we're featuring a digitized 78rpm disc from our collections through a SoundCloud playlist called the WIMA Work from Home Playlist of 78rpm Discs.

Most of the initial work here has been completed by our part-time sound archivist, Cameron Fontaine. Cameron's been working for WIMA for a bit over a year now through an Emigrant Support Programme grant from Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs. He's been focusing on digitizing the 78rpm discs in the Ted McGraw Collection.

From there, I've been doing a bit of post-processing with some noise reduction work, click removal, and a bit of amplification. For discs from the Decca label, I've been digitally adjusting the playback speed to 80rpm per Alan Morrisroe's research. Maybe more on that later in another blog.
