Volunteer Manager Job Position

JOB SUMMARY

The Volunteer Manager is responsible for implementing a volunteer management system that includes the recruitment, interviewing, placement, training, recordkeeping, recognition and retention of volunteers of CelticMKE. In partnership with the Volunteer Area Supervisor(s), the Volunteer Manager provides overall assistance, guidance, and consultation to the organization.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Provide assistance and direction to unpaid (volunteer) Volunteer Area Supervisor(s) for the volunteer management process. 

  2. Manage and supervise assigned interns and other volunteers to assist with volunteer management.

  3. Assess volunteer needs and coordinate the recruitment of a diverse body of volunteers through the use of paid and unpaid advertising, coordination with other service groups, schools and other agencies.

  4. Manage and coordinate processes for volunteer interviews, record checks, placement, satisfaction, performance evaluations, and orientation.

  5. Develop consistent and effective communications with volunteer pool in the form of mass emails, newsletters, Insideirishfest website and volunteer updates.

  6. Manage comprehensive volunteer recognition program that includes both informal and formal methods, including annual events, nominations to community/state awards.

  7. Research trends in volunteer management in order to improve marketing and recruitment strategies, volunteer management systems, and effective recognition programs.

  8. Work with area liaisons to assess, identify, and prioritize volunteer needs and ensure that volunteer job descriptions are current.

  9. Oversee volunteer record keeping including maintaining individual volunteer personnel files and keeping database with pertinent job/personal information for volunteers and reports.

  10. Prepare reports for both internal and external organizations, including reports to the Board of Directors. 

  11. Keep volunteer handbooks, job descriptions, codes of conduct, and other volunteer manuals current and relevant.

  12. Participate in the handling of volunteer personnel issues, grievances, and separation. 

  13. Perform as Coordinator for the Open Forum

o Attend committee meetings, Provide advice and direction to the committee, assure committee activities are aligned with the mission and vision

  1. Develop partnerships and collaborative efforts with other community organizations/groups.

  2. Collaborate with AARP, local colleges, VolunteerMatch and other organizations to secure workers to fill essential positions at the organization at no financial cost to the organization.

  3. Performs other duties as assigned.

SCOPE

The Volunteer Manager will be responsible for the coordination between volunteers and staff to ensure that all core mission services are delivered, and will act as the supervisor for our volunteer community.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Minimum Education (Required and Preferred): Bachelor’s degree or Associates with equivalent experience preferred
  • Minimum Related Experience:
      • Experience in Volunteer Management
      • Supervisory experience desired
      • Computer skills; including Word, Excel, Outlook
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • Personable and positive attitude
      • Ability to interact effective with a wide variety of people
      • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and accurately
      • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
      • Team player

WORK CONDITIONS (Required to comply with ADA, DOT, OSHA, or other government standards)
Writing, typing, light lifting, carrying, going up and down stairs, sitting, standing, and driving
